Medical Questions
What’s the difference between perimenopause and menopause?
Menopause means you haven’t had a period for 12 months. Perimenopause is the time leading up to that—when your hormones shift and symptoms begin. It often starts in your 30s or 40s and can last several years.
I'm not sure if I'm in perimenopause or menopause. How can I tell?
Many people are unsure of where they are in their journey. Our free, confidential quiz is a great place to start. It will help you understand your symptoms and provide some initial clarity.
Do you address sexual health concerns?
Yes, we are dedicated to helping you master your hormonal and sexual health. We understand that issues like low libido and painful intercourse are common in midlife, and we offer compassionate, personalized solutions.
What is the difference between your two programs?
Our Balance Essentials program is for targeted medical management, while the Vitality Reset is a complete, in-depth transformation that includes a wider range of services, like advanced lab testing, hypnotherapy, and expert 1:1 coaching.
Do you check hormone levels?
Not usually. In perimenopause, estrogen and progesterone levels bounce around too much to be helpful on their own. We may check testosterone. If you're in the Vitality Reset, we check for things that can mimic menopause symptoms, including:
Thyroid issues
Low iron, B12, or vitamin D
Blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation
Hormone Therapy
Do you prescribe menopause hormone therapy (MHT)?
Yes, we provide science-backed care, including menopause hormone therapy (also known as hormone replacement therapy), when it is the right option for you. We also explore non-hormonal and lifestyle-based solutions.
Is hormone therapy safe?
Yes, when used thoughtfully. We use the safest forms, doses, and delivery methods for your body and timing. In November 2025, the FDA removed its black box warning on hormone therapy for cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, and dementia risk — a decision reflecting decades of more recent research showing the original warnings, based on older studies, overstated those risks for most women starting therapy near the onset of menopause. We still take your personal and family history seriously when designing your plan.
Does hormone therapy increase cancer risk?
The breast cancer risk is very small—and depends on the type of hormones used. Older studies raised concerns, but this is no longer just our read of newer research: in November 2025, the FDA itself removed the black box warning on breast cancer risk from hormone therapy products, based on a comprehensive review showing the original warnings didn't reflect current evidence. Even with estrogen plus progesterone, the increase is slight—similar to drinking one or two glasses of wine per day. We choose your treatment carefully and are happy to discuss your personal and family history.
How does estrogen help during perimenopause or menopause?
Estrogen eases hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, sleep problems, and mood swings. We use hormone therapy or birth control depending on what works best for you.
How does progesterone help?
Progesterone can improve sleep, lower anxiety, and reduce heavy periods. Some use it on its own; others combine it with estrogen to protect the uterus.
What about testosterone?
Testosterone is mostly used for low sex drive after menopause. Some people also feel more energized or emotionally balanced. If it’s indicated in your plan, we’ll check your levels and use safe, appropriate doses.
Support & Specialized Conditions
What is a "whole-person approach"?
This means we don't just treat individual symptoms. We look at your overall well-being, including your physical and mental health. Our care plans often integrate medical solutions with supportive therapies like nutritional guidance, stress management, and hypnotherapy
What is hypnotherapy and how does it help?
Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation to help with symptoms like hot flashes, anxiety, sleep issues, pain, or cravings. It’s safe, evidence-based, and included in the Vitality Reset—it can help even if you’re not sure you’re “hypnotizable.”
I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). Can you still help me?
Yes. Our founder has personal experience with hypermobile EDS and understands the unique complexities of navigating this chronic condition, as well as conditions that commonly occur alongside EDS, such as Mast Cell Activation and Dysautonomia. We provide personalized care that takes your specific health needs into account, ensuring you get the comprehensive support you deserve. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) affects collagen and can cause joint pain, fatigue, and blood pressure changes. Hormonal shifts can make symptoms worse. We understand EDS and adjust care accordingly.
How do you treat EDS at PHASES?
Care depends on your symptoms. We often recommend gentle movement, anti-inflammatory foods, and supplements or medications to support your joints, reduce pain and inflammation, and improve energy. We pursue diagnostic testing for hEDS, MCAS, and POTS if indicated. We also refer to other specialists and do genetic testing as needed.
Pricing & Insurance
Will my insurance help pay for care?
We provide a Superbill to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Common billing codes: 99205 (first visit), 99214 (follow-ups). Hypnotherapy may be reimbursed differently—ask your plan for details.
Are your services covered by insurance?
We are an out-of-network provider. We can provide you with a Superbill to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. We recommend you contact your insurance provider directly to understand your out-of-network benefits.
Are your products FSA and HSA eligible?
Yes, our Vitality Reset and Balance Essentials programs are FSA and HSA eligible.
